A troll-like creature from Scottish folklore or a dark elf from Dungeons & Dragons fiction. Velda, upon meeting an unfamiliar dungeoneer (Gavin, Team 1 of Series 3), greeted him with: "Be you goblin, drow, banshee or dwarf, you will answer to me or meet your maker."

Velda, herself an elf with a slightly dark disposition, pronounced "drow" to rhyme with Rowe: a pleasing reminder of David Rowe, the maker of the dungeon artwork before which Velda and Gavin were standing.
