A warrior god of Norse mythology, identified by his sword and the absence of his right hand, which was bitten off by the
wolf Fenrir. Tyr's father was
Odin and he was also known as Tiwaz, Teiws and Tiw, the latter name being the source of Tuesday (a day for watchers of
Knightmare Series 1 and 2 to reflect on the previous day's episode).
In the
Fortress of Assassins gamebook, the player may be attacked by an unnamed swordsman without a right hand. Given the influence of Norse mythology elsewhere in the gamebook, it seems fair to regard this character as an incarnation of Tyr.
