A fortress located on a steep crag in the medieval village of Peñaranda de Duero, in the Burgos province of Spain. Originally dating from the 10th century, it was rebuilt in the 15th century, copying the design of
Peñafiel Castle with its narrow walled precinct. In 1931 the castle, together with
Avellaneda Palace and the village, was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument.
On their way through
Level 1,
Team 3 and
Team 4 of Series 7 found their exit from the castle courtyard impeded by a
troll which was swinging its club from side to side. Both used a
potion to get past it.
The castle entrance can be seen from outside, with the square keep visible in the background, in a
Series 7 promotional photo featuring
Lissard.
