1. Bodiam Castle
A 14th century moated castle in the village of Bodiam near Robertsbridge, East Sussex.

The following Knightmare scenes were filmed at Bodiam Castle:

[Related Image] Team 4 of Series 5 solved a shapes and numerals Causeway puzzle to cross the moat, redeeming the Shield halfway across, and returned to Treguard's antechamber via the (digitally modified) Gatehouse. Bodiam was the third location to represent Knightmare Castle, following Framlingham Castle in Series 4 and Castell Coch earlier in Series 5.

[Related Image] The north side of the castle also appeared in the end credits of Series 5 episode 6.

[Related Image] Smirkenorff landed Richard and Ben on the Octagon, an island in the moat.
Pickle: "A fortress! Although I think it's seen better times."

[Related Image] A piece of the west wall is all that now remains of the Barbican.
Pickle wasn't a fan of Bodiam Castle: "Hmm! Not one of Smirkenorff's best, master."

[Related Image] Both dungeoneers found Level 1 clue objects waiting for them at the main Gatehouse.

[Related Image] An Eyeshield sequence followed the path east from the main entrance...

[Related Image] ...and into the basement of the household apartments. This Level 1 room appeared in Series 5 and Series 6, often as a clue room.

[Related Image] A modified version of the same room was used for a Level 1 Causeway in Series 5.

[Related Image] Most dungeoneers would exit via the wooden staircase and through the castle chapel, which invariably set Pickle off whimpering about his fear of heights. Treguard advised him not to look!

[Related Image] View of the moat during the same Eyeshield sequence - definitely not a suitable exit.
Team 2 of Series 6: "I think you should go back now!"

[Related Image] Another Eyeshield sequence followed the path west from the main entrance, alongside what may once have been stables.

[Related Image] Sylvester Hands and Skarkill both regretted confronting Series 5 dungeoneers in this corner of Level 1.

[Related Image] The wall here was frequently used as a background shot for close-ups in various dungeon rooms.

[Related Image] The doorway led up some stairs into the hexagonal North-West Tower, where a portal could be found.

[Related Image] Team 9 found themselves straight back in the same courtyard! This time it was flipped and included a large gate, behind which several teams found either the Descender or Smirkenorff.

[Related Image] This Eyeshield sequence led from the retainers' hall to the kitchen. The image shows a view towards the east wall, with the buttery windows on the right.

[Related Image] The Great Kitchen can be recognised by its two huge fireplaces.

[Related Image] This room continued to be used up to Series 7, when two teams encountered the Brollachan here.

[Related Image] In Series 5, the west wall was sometimes replaced with a deadly Level 2 Blocker (also seen in El Rescate del Talismán). On one occasion this modified version was used as a Level 3 clue area instead.

[Related Image] Upon exiting the kitchen, an Eyeshield sequence led down some stairs to a large well in the basement of the South-West Tower.
