Town in the English county of Essex. Colchester was known to the Romans as Camulodunum. Team 6 of Series 4 did not know this, and nor did Mellisandre, so when the maid asked dungeoneer Dickon what the Romans called Colchester, he told her it was Caledonia (the Roman name for Scotland).

David Rowe's Art of Knightmare book refers to Colchester Zoo, suggesting that one or more of the animals seen in the dungeon came from there. Colchester Zoo opened in 1963.
