Character who appeared in
Knightmare RPG Season 2 in 2000. Cheron was a ferryman on the Black Lake between
Levels 1 and 2. In Session 1, he was ordered by the
Unholy King not to row any
dungeoneers across the lake, but some nonetheless succeeded in getting a ride.
Team 1 used a
DISGUISE spell to turn their
dungeoneer into a
skeletron, thereby gaining Cheron's assistance (not unlike the use of the
Fearsome potion in
KM Series 8).
Team 8's dungeoneer was mistaken by Cheron for a servant of the Unholy King and got a ride that way.
Cheron's resemblance to Death was a family resemblance: they were cousins. Like the Unholy King, he would occasionally undermine his mystique by turning coarse:
"Oh Sh*t. My bloody Scythes broken again. I guess I'll have to go to B&Q again and get one from the garden utensils section. I tell you, it's terrible the kind of craftsmanship that goes into things these days. Whatever century this is." (Session 2)

Although Cheron desired payment for his services, he did not demand it in advance as the
Dunswater Boatman did, yet was liable to call his passenger a "cheap son of a bitch" for not offering any. He was reluctant to venture out of his boat, regarding Level 2 as too disturbing a place.
Cheron was portrayed via text by Adam Battersby and drawn by Lucy a.k.a.
Sidriss Starshine, who has confirmed that the character was based on
Charon of
Greek mythology.
