1. Poole’s Cavern
A natural limestone cave near Buxton in the Peak District, Derbyshire. It is at least 2 million years old, has been used by man since Neolithic times, and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The cave has been a tourist attraction since the 16th century, when Mary Queen of Scots is said to have visited.

The following Knightmare scenes were filmed at Poole's Cavern:

[Related Image] Level 1 Causeway tackled by Team 1, Team 2 and Team 4 of Series 6. Visible on the right-hand side is 'the Flitch of Bacon', the largest stalactite in Derbyshire at just under 2m (6.5ft).

[Related Image] The centre of the above image, together with its reflection, was later used as the setting for the Great Causeway in Level 3. This is where Team 6 of Series 6 died on the brink of victory.

[Related Image] Captain Nemanor delivered Team 5 of Series 6 "to the Mines of Gore and the last dungeon". Here they magically summoned Hordriss who gave them a vital spell.

[Related Image] This is the Roman Chamber, where over 4,000 archaeological artefacts have been found. The markers left from an extensive dig in the 1980s are clearly visible in this Eyeshield sequence.

[Related Image] Ben's final encounter with Lord Fear in the Caverns of Gore. Up ahead, the infant River Wye flows alongside the cave path in winter.

[Related Image] This scene had previously appeared behind Treguard at the end of Series 6 episode 2.

Poole's Cavern is now owned by the Buxton Civic Association (a registered charity) and is open to the public. Click here to visit the website.
