Entry of the Day - Tree Friend Tree Foe
1. Tree Friend Tree Foe
A song by Bolt Action Five, a band from London. Released in March 2007, Tree Friend Tree Foe (often abbreviated to TFTF) was Bolt Action Five's first single, and is about Knightmare ('that gameshow where the player wears/A helmet/And walks around this maze that isn't really there') and the experience of being one of its Watchers ('Don't say it's just a TV show/It's the best thing I've ever known'). The title seemingly refers to Oakley the tree troll from Series 4 and 5, who would often seek to determine whether or not a dungeoneer was a "tree friend" by questioning them about ecology. The lyrics, which do not name Knightmare specifically but do name 'Treguard and his trendy beard', can be read in full here.

The music video for TFTF involves a man undertaking a quest and facing adversaries en route, but otherwise is not related to Knightmare. The video is available to view on YouTube, here.

Tree Friend Tree Foe can be listened to on Bolt Action Five's MySpace page, which is here. A number of remixes of TFTF are also available: the Cleft Palettes Remix (which includes a version of the Knightmare theme) from here; the Princess Sparkle Remix from here; the Dan Le Sac Remix from here; the DTC and LwB Remixes from here; the Run Hide Survive Remix from here. An album of four TFTF remixes was released on 19/11/07: more information is available here.

Tree Friend Tree Foe was brought to the attention of the online Knightmare fan community by James Aukett in May 2007, via LiveJournal, MySpace and the Discussion Forum.
