The supposed practice of changing one basic substance to another, such as iron to gold. Alchemy was the subject of questions posed to Team 4 of Series 2 (who knew the answer) and Team 6 of Series 6 (who didn't, missing out on crucial information as a result).

The 1987 Knightmare computer game from Activision had a spell called ALCHEMY. Its description in the manual: 'Turns characters to a solid gold sphere. Most objects turned to gold may then be collected by the knight [player] as treasure.' Why spend time with somebody when you can simply spend them?
