Exclamation made by Hordriss as he banished a skull ghost on Level 3 in Team 1 of Series 4's quest. Whether "Abesse" was a magical utterance itself, or just for show, is unknown. The word is the present infinitive form of the Latin verb abesse, meaning 'to be absent'. To give a command, Hordriss should have used the imperative form of the verb, which is abes or abesto. But given that Hordriss' Latin-sounding incantations soon stopped consisting of any genuine Latin words, perhaps we should be grateful.
