According to
Lord Fear's Diary in
The Quest, the Scurriers were "short lived but magical creatures" created by
Lord Fear. They could only be seen "in the corner of one's eye", and were sent into dangerous places between the
levels to fetch "the mighty magical engines and incantations" that enabled Fear to construct his
Skeletrons.
