1. Monty Python
Iconic comedy troupe, well known for the TV series Monty Python's Flying Circus and various films.

The first of those films was Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which like Knightmare drew from Arthurian legend with dramatic and comedic licence. In one scene, King Arthur is challenged by the Black Knight, who loses all his limbs in the ensuing fight but won't concede defeat. 16 years later, Sir Hugh de Wittless appeared in Knightmare Series 5 and, in his first scene, told Team 3 of Series 5 that he'd just had "a dashed bruising joust ... with this strange fellow I met. He didn't have any arms or legs, this chap. Fought like a paladin though." Given Hugh's portrayal as a comic knight, it seems reasonable to take this as a Monty Python reference.

One of Monty Python's most memorable images, seen in the TV series introduction and elsewhere, is a gigantic bare foot coming down indiscriminately. Some Knightmare watchers have been reminded of this upon seeing the giant foot in Series 3 and the giant boot summoned by Team 7 of Series 7.

Certain Knightmare characters have evoked Monty Python for forum members. Mogdred commented that 'Fatilla the Hun reminds me of Terry Jones doing some Monty Python character!' Malefact once compared Mrs. Grimwold to Brian's mother in Monty Python's Life of Brian: both were female characters played by men.

Monty Python has inspired many Knightmare fans through roleplay forums (Castle Anthrax), sketches and filks (Always Look on the Bright Side of Life becoming 'Always look upon Mogdred and quail').
